Leon W. King

Leon W. King was born on December 12, 1938, in Weatherford, OK to Jesse W. and Helen (O’Donnell) King. Leon passed away on May 25, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 84.

He graduated from Eakly High School and from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford with a degree in math and a double minor in physics and chemistry. He worked for Central Exploration as a computer for the seismograph crew.

He married Pat Sullivan on August 4, 1963, in Tulsa, OK. They made their home in various locations, settling in Oklahoma City.Upon the death of his father in 1964, they moved north of Eakly to raise their family together. Leon farmed peanuts and cotton, served on the Eakly CO-OP board and the Eakly school board. He was also a founding board member of the Oklahoma Boll Weevil Eradication Organization.
Leon enjoyed traveling to Mexico with Pat after harvest and pheasant hunting in Kansas. At an early age, he acquired his pilot’s license, and loved family get-togethers. Leon loved having his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids around him, loved farming with his sons and grandsons, and loved being an onery cuss with his daughters. He will be missed by all those who loved him.

Survivors include his children: Steven King and wife, Kathy, of Weatherford, OK, Marsha Stickley and husband, Bruce, of Cache, OK, Lori McRee and husband, Darren, of Hydro, OK, and Mike King and wife, Mindy, of Eakly, OK; his grandchildren: Dylan King and wife, Cherish, of Moore, OK, Denton King and wife, Kaitlynn, of Eakly, OK, Dayton King and wife, Alli, of Ringwood, OK, Tanner Wilburn of Hydro, OK, James Darren McRee of Grenada, MS, Trenton Musick of Weatherford, OK Dylan Musick of Weatherford, OK, and Taryn Musick of Longview, TX; his great-grandchildren: Breken, Stetson, Lydia, Mila, Jovi, and Leni King; special friend, Anita Robison of Weatherford, OK; his brother-in-law, Frank Dobry of Moore, OK; sister-in-law, Patt Sullivan of Bartlesville, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Helen King; his wife, Pat King; and his sister, Nila Dobry.

Memorial Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Hydro, OK. Officiating the service was Rev. Terry Flansburg
